Marty Perline has stepped down after 38 years as Wichita State University’s faculty athletic representative, the school said in a news release Thursday.

Perline, 76, will continue at WSU as an economics professor in the Barton School of Business.

Julie Scherz, 65, began as the school’s new faculty athletic representative on June 1. She is an associate professor in communication disorders and sciences and serves on the InterCollegiate Athletic Association board at WSU.

The faculty athletic representative serves as the liaison between academics and athletics at the university. Among Scherz’s duties will be certifying eligibility for WSU athletes and teams, and holding orientation meetings with new athletes.
