Wingnuts beat Sioux Falls 7-5

The Wingnuts overcame an early three-run deficit and beat the Canaries 7-5 on Saturday night in Sioux Falls, S.D.

Wichita cut the lead to 3-2 in the fourth inning with a single, three walks and a groundout. Sioux Falls added a run in the bottom of the fourth, but the Wingnuts took control with a three-run sixth.

David Amberson hit a one-out double that scored Abel Nieves and moved Derek Perren to third. Perren scored on wild pitch to make it 4-4, then Jared McDonald’s sacrifice fly to right scored Amberson.

Jake Kahaulelio tripled in the seventh and scored on a ground out, and Nieves homered in the eighth.

Jon Link started for the Wingnuts and picked up the win, going seven innings and allowing four runs. Lincoln Holdzkom pitched the eighth and Josh Dew finished up.

The series concludes Sunday afternoon. Chris Smith is the Wingnuts’ scheduled starter.

Wichita returns home Monday to face El Paso.
