A Facebook tip about possible child abuse led Wichita police to take four young girls into protective custody Tuesday.

The tip went to the Facebook page of the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office, Lt. Doug Nolte said. That office passed the information on to Wichita police because the alleged abuse was occurring in the south part of town.

Police found the girls – ages 7, 5, 3 and 2 – at their day care with bruising on their bodies, Nolte said. The abuse allegedly happened at home and the day care was not involved in the abuse, he added.

The children were living at home with one parent, their father, Nolte said. Police are still investigating and haven’t determined who abused the children, he said.
