The Wichita Wingnuts defeated the Kansas City T-Bones 3-2 in a rain-shortened game on Sunday in Kansas City, Kan.
The game was called after six innings due to heavy thunderstorms sweeping through the area.
The Wingnuts took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning on Derek Perren’s RBI single that scored Cole Armstrong, who reached on a ground-rule double.
Kansas City tied the game in the bottom of the fifth inning on a solo home run by Jairo Perez, but the Wingnuts bounced back in the top of the sixth innning when Armstrong hit a two-run home run.
The Wingnuts turned a inning-ending and game-ending double play to end the sixth inning.
Junior Guerra pitched all six innings for Wichita and earned the win. Guerra allowed two runs, four hits, walked two and struck out six. Brian Murphy took the loss for Kansas City.
The Wingnuts play a three-game series in Gary, Ind., against the Gary SouthShore RailCats beginning Monday.
