Take a look at some of the jewelry you haven’t worn in many seasons. You might be surprised how much of it is back "in" for summer.

Don’t be afraid to wear more than one long necklace to make a bolder statement.

Wear more than one bracelet unless you’ve got on a very wide cuff.

If you’re a petite woman, be careful not to overload the look with necklace, earrings and multiple bracelets.

Consider the length of your neck when buying dangling earrings. You don’t want the earring to hang up on your shoulder or get tangled in a knit top.

While some "sets" are selling, it’s not the only look. Mix it up.

Wearing all gold or all silver is no longer the rule. If it bothers you to wear both, add one piece that is gold and silver.

If you’ve been putting off coordinating and updating your warm weather wardrobe, now is the time to snap to it. And with some colorful accessories, it will be a snap.

These bright and bold extra touches are especially important if you’re not able to run out and buy a bunch of new clothes.

Purses range in size from chic clutch-style bags to oversized totes. Some handbags are structured, and others are made of soft, pliable fabrics and leathers that will hold everything you need and then some.

Regardless of size, this is the year to go for a colorful handbag and not worry a bit about whether it matches your outfit. Just consider the color — coral, yellow, turquoise, etc. — a neutral shade. Choose the style for you and you’re set.

The same goes for footwear. Sandals, heels, ballet flats and even loafers come in all the most popular brights, and some in combinations of colors. Wedge heels in peep-toe styles and many sandals will be a favorite. Sandals that go to the ankle and beyond are also a hot look.

Many sandals have enough bling to add sparkle to any outfit, day or night.

“There was some glitz last year, but this year it’s more mainstream,” said Richard Cupertino, in Dillard’s East women’s shoe department. He said this is not a year to be bashful when it comes to footwear.

“Look for some pop, a wow factor,” he advised.

That also holds true in jewelry, according to Mary Bengston, accessory buyer for Nouveau.

“An earring and bracelet combination is a wonderful way to accessorize this year,” she said. “And pieces shaped like coral or branches are very popular.”

Other popular items in this category: stacking bracelets, cuff bracelets with stones and links of all sizes on necklaces, bracelets and even earrings in a myriad of materials such as plastic, metals and lucite. Horn is another material being used in many places, including handbag clasps and handles.

“This is not a time to be sedate with your jewelry,” said Gay Muenchrath of GM Clotheshorse. “Go for color and for size.”

This is the season to be colorful.
