The resident of a house that caught fire in rural Sedgwick County on Wednesday afternoon escaped harm but one of his dogs perished in the blaze, authorities said.

The fire was reported at 1:47 p.m. at 5804 East 109th St. North, a Sedgwick County dispatch supervisor said. That’s northeast of Valley Center between Oliver and Woodlawn.

Several other dogs at the property survived the fire, officials said. A cause and damage estimate have not yet been released.

The Red Cross was alerted to assist the occupant of the house.
