A 58-year-old woman is being evaluated at a local hospital after she was seen chasing young children with a knife near her home in north Wichita on Monday night, police said.

Witnesses told police the woman became upset at several children outside her home in the 2300 block of North Erie at about 8 p.m., Lt. Doug Nolte said. That’s near 21st and Hillside.

She came outside with a knife and began chasing the children, making “threatening statements,” Nolte said.

Neighbors witnessed the incident and called 911. There were five children in the group: a 3-year-old, two 7-year-olds and two 9-year-olds. None of the children were hurt.

The woman was taken to Via Christi Hospital on East Harry for a mental evaluation, Nolte said.
