What began as a casual classic car cruise along old Route 66 has grown into a more ambitious adventure for Phil Rapp, with his '55 T-Bird, Don Bolain and his '65 Riviera GS, `Boone' Reichenberger, with their '83 Chevy support truck and Ron Bowring, who will be driving his '51 Mercury convertible, not the '40 Ford coupe seen here.
Rapp's Thunderbird will be more reliable with an '88 Lincoln 5.0 HO engine under the hood; the matching automatic overdrive transmission will make highway speeds a breeze and should improve gas mileage on the trip.
The support truck also belongs to Bolain and is painted a matching Lexus purple color to match the Riviera. It will haul emergency/repair equipment on the trek, powered by a 350 Chevy V-8 crate engine.
Ron Bowring's 1951 Mercury convertible will offer comfortable, stylish cruising in either the top-down or top-up configuration. The Merc features all the amenities for a long road trip, including A/C and cruise control.
