A 57-year-old man was arrested Thursday morning after a boy told his mother he had been raped by his babysitter’s father, police said.

The suspect was arrested about 20 minutes after the child’s mother called 911, according to police documents. A police officer pulled the man’s car over in the 500 block of North Old Manor and arrested him.

Arrest records indicate the man is a fugitive from his home state of Texas and was wanted on a warrant linked to a 2011 case. Following his arrest, detectives from the Exploited and Missing Child Unit conducted interviews and gathered evidence that led to the suspect being booked on suspicion of sex crimes as well, Lt. Jeff Weible said.

The rape reportedly occurred in the area of Central and Woodlawn, Weible said. The boy was taken to Via Christi Hospital on East Harry for a medical examination, according to a police report.
