Inter-Faith Ministries has announced the recipients of its 2013 Humanitarian Awards, which will be presented Aug. 22.

The winners are:

• Star Lumber Co., Golden Rule Award. The company was recognized because it has made a difference within the community through philanthropic leadership.

• Timothy Relph, Light of Faith Award. Relph is a homicide detective with the Wichita Police Department, and, according to a news release issued by Anne Corriston, executive director of Inter-Faith Ministries, is “driven by faith, demonstrates a passion and commitment to transform lives lapsing over time or in the glimpse of a moment.”

• Paul and Margaret Miller, Peace by Piece Award. The Millers are pioneers in Kansas recycling and have helped educate the public about the importance of recycling.

• Dear Neighbor Ministries, Spirit of Faith Award. The award recognizes a faith-based organization that helps people in need. The Dear Neighbor Ministries serves the Hilltop neighborhood and helps those in need with assistance with rent, utilities and transportation.

• Randy and Suzy Storms, Leadership through Faith Award. The Stormses were honored because of their civic leadership with community issues. The couple was killed in early February in a one-vehicle accident.

The Humanitarian Awards and Dinner is a longstanding tradition in Wichita. The first award was presented in 1951 when Bishop Mark Carroll was recognized by the local chapter of the National Conference of Christians and Jews.
