McConnell Air Force Base plans to build a new community pavilion for recreational, family and larger group activities.

The pavilion will be built between the softball fields and the Dole Community Center on the base.

Plans call for the pavilion to have wireless internet capabilities, barbecue grills and a fire pit. Future plans call for a bath house to be built adjacent to the pavilion.

The pavilion will be built with funds awarded to the base for being runnerup for the Air Force’s 2013 Commander in Chief’s Installation Excellence Award.

The project is in the bidding process and there is no information yet on the cost of the pavilion or when construction will begin. It is expected to take five months to complete once ground is broken.
