Police are looking into why a woman dropped her two young children off at a Wichita hotel and left them there last week.

The 25-year-old woman left the children – a 3-year-old girl and a 1-year-old boy – with an acquaintance at a hotel in the 5900 block of West Kellogg on Friday, said Lt. Jeff Weible of the Exploited and Missing Child Unit. When the woman hadn’t returned by Saturday morning, the acquaintance called police.

The children have been placed in protective custody, Weible said. No arrests have been made in the case, he said, and the investigation continues.
