Site sends out offenders alerts

  • Published Sunday, May 5, 2013, at 10:33 p.m.

Each Monday, The Eagle highlights a government record that is available to the public. Open records help people keep government in check and help them better understand how government affects their lives.

For a complete list of You Oughta Know columns, go to www.kansas.com/oughta.

The record: Notification when registered offenders move near your home, work or school. Addresses of registered offenders are open records.

Why you’d want it: To be alerted when offenders register an address near you.

Where you get it: Go to www.kbi.ks.gov/registeredoffender/. Click on the “Community Notifications” link.

How much does it cost: The information is free.
