Wichita police are investigating the circumstances that led a 15-year-old boy to walk in to a local hospital with a gunshot wound to his upper chest, according to a Sedgwick County dispatch.

A security officer at Wesley Medical Center called 911 to report the teen’s appearance in the emergency room around 9 p.m. Saturday, a dispatch supervisor said. The security officer told dispatch that hospital staff members think someone dropped the teen off at the hospital; he reportedly was alone when he walked in for treatment, the dispatch supervisor said.

The teen was in critical condition, according to dispatch. Further details were not immediately available.

Police officers were searching several locations in east Wichita on Saturday evening to try to determine the shooting scene, the dispatch supervisor said.
