Steve Naill fell in love with Anglias many years ago when he saw one called the `Lil Hoss' clean up on a Phoenix drag strip. Ten years ago, he found this '48 for sale in a car advertising publication while visiting southern California and he has now recaptured the essence of the little black gasser for himself.
Naill's Anglia is stuffed with an LS6 454 cubic inch big block Chevy that he estimates produces around 500 horsepower; factor in the 2,250 pound total weight of the car and it's not hard to believe it when he says, `This thing leaves hard.'
With the engine set-back involved in making the power plant fit, the interior features a `dog house' covered by an aluminum instrument panel filled with vintage Stewart Warner racing gauges. Nail and a friend applied the engine-turned design to the metal.
Retaining the original profile of a small English Ford sedan, Naill's Anglia only hints at the performance potential crammed under its gleaming black sheet metal. Originally clad in white, the car was repainted in 2012 GM Black Carbon Metallic by Lonny Moore's Collision Service.
