Wichita State’s men’s golf team appears well on its way to a sixth consecutive Missouri Valley Conference title.
The Shockers shot a 7-under-par 569 to lead Illinois State by 24 strokes after 36 holes at Dalhousie Country Club in Cape Girardeau, Mo. Louis Cohen-Boyer leads the field by one shot after carding a 69-72-141, 3-under-par.
WSU golfer fill the top four spots on the leaderboard. Rafael Becker is one shot behind Cohen Boyer with Calvin Pearson and Hunters Sparks, last season’s medalist, tied for third. Tyler Ganns (150) is tied for 10th.
Drake’s Devin Leland carded a 145, after shooting a first-round 68, and is in fifth place.
The Shockers started the day with a 288 to lead Illinois State by nine shots. WSU followed with a 281 on the second round to build its lead. Becker birdied five of the first 10 holes on his way to 68.
Host Southern Illinois is third with a 24-over-par 600, followed by Drake (609), Bradley (611), Evansville and Northern Iowa (612), Missouri State (615) and Creighton (629).
The final 18 holes begin at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday. WSU golfers begin at 10:10.
