Three juveniles were arrested after setting off what appeared to be a confetti cannon inside Towne West Square on Sunday afternoon.

“There was an explosion,” said Wichita police Sgt. Jesse Boomer. “Confetti was shot into the air.”

No one was injured, and there was no damage, Boomer said.

Witnesses said the noise sounded like a gunshot and occurred inside the mall near Bath & Body Works, near the food court.

Police blocked off the area where the confetti landed and took pictures, said an employee of a nearby store who is not authorized to speak to the media.

“I could hear it clear as day,” the employee said. “It sounded like a boom. Everybody left our store.”

The manager of another nearby store said she witnessed the confetti explosion.

She heard a woman standing nearest to it scream.

“She could not stop yelling,” said the manager. “I thought she was going to have a heart attack.”

The three juveniles were taken to juvenile hall, Boomer said.

Police received a call about the explosion at about 4:30 p.m.
