A KC-135 refueling tanker jet out practicing maneuvers on Friday made an emergency – but safe – landing at Wichita Mid-Continent Airport, according to an airport spokeswoman.
The military aircraft was attempting to return to McConnell Air Force Base when problems with one of its four engines forced pilots “to shut it down,” said Valerie Wise, Air Service and Business Development Manager for the Wichita Airport Authority. It was fully loaded with fuel, she said.
The tanker landed at the airport around 5:30 p.m. Friday, shortly after the malfunction was reported.
Wise said no one was hurt and landing had no impact on Mid-Continent’s air traffic.
