A 58-year-old man is dead after his semi struck another on K-96 in Scott City on Wednesday, veered into a ditch and caught fire, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.

Timothy Allen Smith, of Wakeeney, was headed west on K-96 at 8:35 a.m. when he collided with a northbound semi crossing the highway on Indian Road, KHP said in an online crash report. Smith’s semi ignited after it landed in the north ditch.

The other semi, driven by 25-year-old Christopher Thomas Koger of Ness City, rolled onto its top into the same ditch, KHP said.

Koger was taken to a local hospital with possible injuries, the report said, while Smith died at the scene.
