A 79-year-old Paola man died Wednesday morning in a crash involving three semis, as well as his car, the Kansas Highway Patrol said in an online crash report.

David L. Yarnell was attempting to pass one semi, also headed south on U.S. 169 in Anderson County, when a northbound semi came into his path, KHP said. He careened into the left side of the southbound semi’s trailer then crashed head-on into the other.

The trailer of a third semi, also headed south, hit Yarnell’s 1997 Oldsmobile 88 as it passed the collision, KHP said. Yarnell died at the scene.

The crash happened about 6:45 a.m. three miles north of Colony on U.S. 169, KHP said.

The driver of the semi involved in the crash – 38-year-old Rajinder Singh of Arlington, Texas – was not hurt. Neither were the other semi drivers, identified as 68-year-old Larry Manderscheid of Independence and 55-year-old Robert Bell of Ottawa, KHP said.
