Wichita State’s women’s golf team is 18 holes away from winning its first conference title since 1992.
It won’t be easy. Three teams are within three shots of the first-place Shockers at the Missouri Valley Conference Championships after the second round. The Shockers carded a 317 on Monday to total 642, one shot ahead of Southern Illinois. Missouri State and Bradley are two shots back.
WSU shot a 325 on Sunday to lead SIU by one shot. MSU shaved 19 shots off its second round, turning in a 313.
Balanced scoring is carrying WSU. Bryce Schroeder (160) is tied for ninth after shooting a second-round 75.
Hollie Weatherburn (161) is in 11th, with Hannah Martin and Sarah Gilbert one back and tied for 12th. Meghan Schuetz carded a 167 and is tied for 21st.
Missouri State’s Cassie Rushing and Illinois Sstate’s Katie Jean are tied for first at 151.
The final 18 holes begin at 9 a.m. Monday at the Club at Porto Cima in Sunrise Beach, Mo.
WSU has finished second four times since its title, most recently in 2011.
