Police are looking for three additional suspects in connection with the shooting death of a 33-year-old man Thursday night in downtown Wichita.

While authorities have still not officially released the victim’s name, a police report on the incident lists the victim as Ronald Betts. He was shot several times shortly after 9:30 p.m. at 446 N. Emporia and pronounced dead a short time later at a local hospital, police said.

Two men – identified in arrest reports as Kyle Beltz, 21, and Kyler Carriker, 22 – were booked into Sedgwick County Jail on suspicion of first-degree murder in connection with the case. Beltz was arrested shortly after 2:30 p.m. Friday in the 300 block of North Estelle, arrest records show. Carriker was arrested shortly after 3 p.m. in the 600 block of North Broadway.

Beltz and Carriker are also being held on suspicion of drug charges, police documents show. Bond has been set at $500,000.

Lt. Todd Ojile, who heads the homicide department, did not offer names or descriptions of the three additional suspects being sought by police.

In a news briefing with media Friday, Ojile said three men knocked on the door of the house on Emporia and were allowed inside. Police reports indicate someone in the house knew at least one of the three visitors. Some sort of altercation erupted, Ojile said, and numerous shots were fired.

Along with the fatally wounded man, Ojile said, a 22-year-old man was hit in the leg and a 29-year-old woman was grazed on the arm by a bullet. The man left the house and went to a house in the 1600 block of South Spruce, where he called police.

He was taken to Wesley Medical Center for treatment and released, Ojile said. The woman grazed by a bullet was treated at the house on Emporia but did not require a trip to the hospital, he said.

Betts is the fifth homicide victim of the year in Wichita.
