Child critical after being hit by vehicle

A 6-year-old Wichita boy hit by a car Saturday as he ran across the road at a rural Butler County intersection remained in critical condition at Wesley Medical Center by evening, a sheriff’s lieutenant said.

The boy sustained injuries to his hip, leg and back after being struck by a 2004 Toyota passenger car driving westbound on Southwest 170th Avenue, a paved road, near Ohio Street Road, Butler County Sheriff’s Lt. Mike Holton said. That’s about 5½ miles north and east of Douglass.

The boy was running from the north ditch to the south ditch with other children around 5:20 p.m. Saturday when he was hit, Holton said.
