Derby police on Thursday arrested two men in connection with the March burglary and vandalism of a Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market that caused $1 million in estimated damage, authorities said in an e-mailed statement.

Derby residents Harrison P. Schroeder, 22, and Skyler J. Williams, 23, were booked into Sedgwick County Jail on Thursday afternoon, according to an online booking report. Each is being held on suspicion of burglary, criminal damage to property and theft in lieu of a $25,000 bond, jail records show.

The store, 1106 S. Rock Road in Derby, was under construction when thieves struck sometime on March 15 or 16, police have said. After entering the building through a plywood door, the suspects reportedly used scissor-lift machines to ram and push freezer and cooler units, and also damaged plumbing and electrical units, police said.

Contractors found the damage the morning of March 16.

The case is being handled by the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office, Kristy Bansemer, Derby’s public information officer, said in the news release.
