Wichita police have determined a woman may have accidentally shot herself Wednesday evening, according to Lt. Doug Nolte, spokesman for the Wichita Police Department.

The 34-year-old woman was walking in the 1900 block of North Erie when she contacted a second woman to tell her that she’d been shot.

The woman contacted 911 and when police arrived at the scene, Nolte said, the woman who had been shot was initially uncooperative.

The woman was taken to Wesley Medical Center where she was treated and admitted for a gunshot wound to her upper stomach area.

“We learned she might have accidentally shot herself with a handgun she had gotten at a residence prior to being called,” Nolte said.

Officers were called to the scene at 8:25 p.m. Wednesday. No gun has been recovered. Police are not searching for a suspect.

Anyone with information on where the incident occurred is asked to call 316-268-4646, Nolte said.
