ALCO Stores said Thursday that sales from continuing operations, excluding fuel, were up 1.4 percent to $44.8 million for the five-week period ending April 7, compared to $44.2 million for the same period of 2012.

But same-store sales, excluding fuel, fell 1.7 percent in the period from a year earlier.

"March sales results benefited from the shift of the Easter holiday this year compared to April last year,” Rich Wilson, president and chief executive officer, said. “However, due to the extended winter weather throughout much of the Midwest, sales decreases in our outdoor seasonal businesses offset the benefit of the Easter shift, resulting in a decrease in same-store sales.”
