Woman critically injured in shooting near 21st, Hillside

Authorities say woman suffered gunshot wounds to her abdomen and leg in a shooting Wednesday evening near 21st and Hillside.

The woman, in her 40s, was transported by ambulance to Wesley Medical Center following the incident, reported at 8:22 p.m. at 19th and Volutsia, a Sedgwick County dispatch supervisor said. She was in critical condition, he said.

According to dispatch, the victim approached another woman near the intersection and asked for help after she was shot; that woman called 911.

Police are searching for a person of interest – a man – in the case. He is black, in his 40s or 50s, 5-feet-6, with a thin build and is wearing a blue or gray jacket and black stocking cap, according to emergency radio traffic.
