Police gave details Monday about a shooting late Sunday night in south Wichita that sent a 23-year-old woman to the hospital.

Lt. Doug Nolte said the victim was standing on her porch in the 5000 block of East New Jersey Drive at about 10:50 p.m. waiting for an uncle to come take her to work when a man wearing a black hat shot in her direction several times.

She was struck by five bullets and wounded in the back, abdomen and arms. The woman was taken to Wesley Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

Another bullet went through the front door of the house, which is near Oliver and 31st Street South. A 45-year-old man and 51-year-old woman were inside, but neither was hit, Nolte said.

The victim gave police the name of a man she thought might be involved, based on a previous altercation she had had with him, but she couldn’t positively identify him as the shooter.
