A man armed with a handgun robbed a Burger King in east Wichita early Sunday, police said.

A 26-year-old man who works at the restaurant at 528 N. Oliver was outside on break at about 1 a.m. Sunday when a man approached with a handgun, said Wichita police Sgt. Scott Brunow.

The robber ordered the employee back into the restaurant, where he held him and another employee, a 56-year-old woman, at gunpoint and took cash from the store safe, Brunow said.

In addition to taking cash, the suspect took both employees’ cell phones and another phone from the restaurant and left on foot, Brunow said. The phones were recovered just east of the business, he said.
