Sunflower Cluster Dog Show starts Thu. at Pavilions

The Sunflower Cluster Dog Show, an American Kennel Club-sanctioned all-breed dog show, will be Thursday through April 8 at the Kansas Pavilions. The show is a joint effort of the Wichita, Salina and Hutchinson kennel clubs and the Wichita Dog Training Club.

Thursday is devoted to specialty shows featuring toy breeds, Australian shepherds, golden retrievers and three varieties of poodles. Hours are 1 to 6 p.m.

The show is open to all breeds Friday through Monday, when dogs will compete in conformation, obedience, agility, herding, rally and lure coursing, from 8 a.m. to approximately 4 p.m., followed by the awarding of Best in Show each day. More than 130 AKC breeds will be represented.

The show will also feature Art Show at the Dog Show, a juried fine-arts competition with more than 200 canine-related works of art. Vendors will sell dog-related products and services.

Admission is free. Only dogs competing in the show will be allowed. All events are at the Kansas Pavilions, on 85th Street North off I-135. For more information, call 316-744-8400.

Dog show to offer Canine Good Citizen testing

The Sunflower Cluster Dog Show will offer AKC Canine Good Citizen testing and certification April 6 at the Kansas Pavilions.

The testing will be offered from 2 to 5 p.m. in Pavilion II. A certified tester from the American Kennel Club will put purebred and mixed-breed dogs through the exercises necessary to demonstrate they are official AKC Canine Good Citizens.

The cost is $12 per dog. Owners should bring their dogs’ proof of rabies vaccination and a comb or brush.

For information on the test and preparation, go to: www.akc.org/events/cgc/training_testing.cfm. For online registration or more information, e-mail tandavakj@att.net or call 316-304-6142.
