A mischievous Wichita student drew police to Mead Middle School after he tossed a lighted firecracker in a toilet Thursday afternoon.

Authorities responded to a report of an explosion at the school, 2601 E. Skinner, shortly after 3:30 p.m., a Sedgwick County dispatch supervisor said. When police arrived, the student was in the principal’s office, he said.

In a e-mailed response to questions, district spokeswoman Susan Arensman said the student “put a firework in a toilet,” causing minimal damage.

Police talked to the middle-schooler and “released him to his parents,” she said, adding: “The student will face disciplinary action by the school.”

No one was hurt, she said.
