A Winfield man’s newspaper delivery route took a wrong turn early Wednesday when a pair of robbers stole his wallet and cellphone at gunpoint, authorities said.

The man, 51, called 911 around 4:17 a.m. after he said the men, in their 20s, ordered him on the ground in the 300 block of Williams Street in Rock, stole his property and fled in a red sports car, the Cowley County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

When the robbers stopped and backed the car into a ditch, another a white sedan stopped nearby then drove off.

The suspects and white sedan remained at large Thursday, according to the release.

Rock is located in northwestern Cowley County along U.S. 77.
