Police are investigating a shooting in southeast Wichita that occurred late Wednesday night.

A 36-year-old man told police he had just gotten out of a car to visit his brother in the 800 block of South Mission at about 11:45 p.m. Wednesday when someone in a group of men raised a gun and fired shots.

One of the bullets struck him in the upper chest and another hit the car in which he had been riding, Lt. Doug Nolte said. The woman who had driven with the victim took him to Via Christi Hospital on East Harry.

He was then transferred to Via Christi’s St. Francis campus. The victim told police he did not know anyone in the group of four or five men from which the shots came, Nolte said.

No suspect descriptions have been released.
