Someone tries - and fails - to steal spools of wire from golf course

As attempted burglaries go, this one would probably go down as a double bogey.

Someone broke into a maintenance shed at Clapp Golf Course over the weekend, police said, but they left behind the two wire spools they tried to steal.

The break-in was discovered at about 7 a.m. on Monday at the golf course, Lt. Joe Schroeder said. Someone pried open a sheet-metal wall to get into the maintenance shed and moved the spools but did not take them, he said.

The incident occurred sometime after 11:30 p.m. on Friday and 7 a.m. on Monday, he said.
