Via Christi recently launched a program to use scribes in its emergency rooms at East Harry, St. Teresa and St. Francis.

The program, which includes about 30 scribes at the three campuses, will help the workflow within the emergency rooms, said Stephen Nesbit, chief medical officer for Via Christi Hospitals Wichita.

He said that having scribes input information into computer systems will give physicians more time with patients.

The change also could lead to greater efficiencies in billing, he said.

Via Christi contracted with the company ScribeAmerica to recruit and train scribes in medical terminology.
