Dogs invited to free St. Patrick’s Day event

Dogs and their human companions are invited to celebrate “St. Pawtricks Day” at a free event Sunday.

The event, from 1 to 4 p.m. at SitStay Dog Training Center, 1629 S. Meridian, includes concessions, games and contests, including a costume contest, barking contest and dog-owner look-alike contest. Prizes will be awarded.

For more information, call 316-619-4082.

Chocolate sales to aid bunny rescue group

Wichita’s Bunny TNT club has joined with two local candy-makers to remind people that live bunnies do not make good Easter presents for children and to raise money for the rabbit rescue group.

Through March 30, Cero’s Candies, 1108 E. Douglas, will sell chocolate bunnies for $3, and Cocoa Dolce Artisan Chocolates, 2132 N. Rock Road, Suite 100, will offer special bunny candy for $2.50 and a two-piece box including bunny candy for $5. Proceeds will help Bunny TNT’s rabbit rescue and educational efforts.

Bunny TNT and the national “Make Mine Chocolate” campaign want people to know that rabbits are not low-maintenance animals but are highly social creatures that require regular interaction with their human family. Because rabbits can live more than 10 years, they say, being a rabbit owner is a serious commitment. If you’re looking for a bunny as an Easter gift for a child, they urge you to make it a stuffed or chocolate bunny.

For more information, call Joyce or John Gedraitis with Bunny TNT at 316-683-1122 or visit www.makeminechocolate.org.

Canine Good Citizenship testing at dog show

The Sunflower Cluster of Dog Shows will be offering AKC Canine Good Citizen testing and certification on April 6 at the Kansas Pavilions.

The testing will be offered from 2 to 5 p.m. in Pavilion II. A trained and certified tester from the American Kennel Club will put purebred and mixed-breed dogs through the exercises necessary to demonstrate they are official AKC Canine Good Citizens.

The cost is $12 per dog. Owners should bring their dogs' proof of rabies vaccination and a comb or brush.

For information on the test and preparation, go to: http://www.akc.org/events/cgc/training_testing.cfm. For online registration or more information, e-mail tandavakj@att.net or call 316-304-6142.
