A Nebraska man died Thursday after his van veered off a Phillips County road, crashed through a fence and hit a tree, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.

Michael A. Lampe, 53, was driving a 2008 Ford E-150 east on US-36 when the crash occurred around 11:45 a.m. Thursday, the KHP said. The van came to rest in a field to the south of the road.

Lampe, of Omaha, died at Phillips County Hospital, the highway patrol reports.

He was not wearing a seat belt, the KHP said.
