Three teens approached a man and asked him for cigarettes Thursday, police said, and when they didn’t get what they wanted, they attacked him.
The incident occurred at about 9:30 p.m. Thursday in the 1400 block of North Spruce, Lt. Joe Schroeder said.
The 63-year-old victim told police the three suspects, all about 16 years old, came up and asked him for cigarettes. When they didn’t get any, one of them picked up a rock and threw it at him, hitting him in the head.
The rock cut the victim’s ear open, Schroeder said. One of the teens then took a $20 bill from the victim’s pocket.
They then fled on foot. A passerby saw the victim on the ground and drove him to Wesley Medical Center, where his wound was stitched up.
