Davis-Moore Auto Group is partnering with NASCAR race driver Clint Bowyer to acquire the Toyota, Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge store in Emporia.

The deal is expected to be formally announced on Tuesday at the dealership at 2815 U.S. Highway 50, according to an e-mail to The Eagle on Thursday from Clint Bowyer Racing.

The dealership will be renamed Clint Bowyer Autoplex.

Davis-Moore president Dawson Grimsley said Thursday the plan is for Davis-Moore to manage the dealership.

“We (will) operate it,” Grimsley said. “He’s busy driving a race car. He’s intelligent enough to know he’s not going to drive a race car for the rest of his life.”

Bowyer is a native of Emporia.

Plans for the partnership developed about three months ago. Grimsley said that’s when he received a call from Bowyer about partnering on the dealership. Grimsley’s son, Sean Tarbell, and Bowyer are friends, he said.

“And I said, ‘Great,’ ” Grimsley said. “It was just that simple.”

In Wichita, Davis-Moore operates dealerships for Chevrolet, Lincoln, Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep, Nissan and Mazda, as well as used car lots.

Grimsley said he would have been interested in the dealership without Bowyer’s participation.

“Oh yeah, we would have done it,” Grimsley said. “But he’s a businessman to begin with, got a good head on his shoulders, and he’s a hard worker. And he’s got a good name in Emporia.”
