Jim Johnson, principal at Wichita’s Chisholm Trail Elementary, was named Wednesday night as superintendent of the Circle public school district, effective July 1.

He replaces Jim Keller, who is retiring after 38 years as an educator, including the last five as Circle’s superintendent.

Circle’s school board made the decision to hire Johnson at its meeting Wednesday night after interviewing three candidates on Tuesday, Keller said.

Johnson has been with the Wichita public schools the last five years. He was principal at Cleaveland Elementary before moving to Chisholm Trail this year.

During his 25 years in education, he has also served as superintendant for Pleasanton and Remington schools and as an elementary teacher.

He received his bachelor’s degree from Sterling College and a master’s from Friends University. He holds a district level certification from Wichita State University.

He and his wife, Sue, have three children and one grandson.
