Judge refuses to shield contacts with abortion provider’s killer

— A judge has again rebuffed efforts by a Kansas anti-abortion activist to shield her communications with the killer of Wichita abortion provider George Tiller.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Kenneth Gale on Wednesday rejected Angel Dillard’s request for a protective order covering her contacts with convicted murderer Scott Roeder.

The judge said even if her jail visits were part of her church’s ministry, the Valley Center woman cannot claim the communications are protected because she is not an ordained minister.

Gale’s ruling comes as the government prepares to depose Dillard next week.

The Justice Department sued her in 2011 under a law protecting access to reproductive services. It accuses her of sending a threatening letter to Dr. Mila Means, who was training to offer abortions after Tiller’s 2009 murder.
