Sedgwick County will be under a burn ban next month.

The county will not issue new open burn permits in April, and people who have permits won’t be able to burn prohibited materials after March 31.

The state-imposed ban includes all open burning of any waste, including vegetation, construction materials such as wood and structures.

The ban also affects Butler, Chase, Chautauqua, Cowley, Elk, Geary, Greenwood, Johnson, Lyon, Marion, Morris, Pottawatomie, Riley, Wabaunsee and Wyandotte counties.

Exceptions to the open burn ban include pasture, crop, range and wildlife or watershed management, but those still will require permits, the release said.

Requests for burn permits are available online at www.sedgwickcounty.org or by calling 316-660-3473.
