To help bolster marriages within the African-American community, Wichita will observe Black Marriage Weekend, Friday through Sunday.

The weekend is celebrated nationally. The local celebration is through a partnership with the Kansas African American Healthy Marriage Initiative, the Marriage for Keeps program at Catholic Charities and Kansas’ Love Letters from Kansas Catholic Charities campaign.

The purpose of the weekend is to highlight the positive aspects of marriage and to encourage its value with African-American individuals, couples and families.

Weekend events include a date night dinner on Friday; relationship strengthening workshops on Saturday, and a vow renewal ceremony on Sunday. Saturday and Sunday events will be at the Boys & Girls Club, 2400 N. Opportunity Drive.

Cost is $50 per couple. Tickets can be purchased at 24 Rent to Own, 4910 E. 21st Street.

For more information go to www.KansasLoveLetters.com or call the Marriage for Keeps at Catholic Charities, 316-712-6045.
