Local law enforcement agencies will team up with Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway for a “Cops on Rails/Officer on the Train” project on Tuesday.
Sedgwick County Sheriff’s deputies and Kansas Highway Patrol troopers will conduct the project between 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., Sgt. Troy Wells said in a prepared statement. Deputies will ride on trains to observe and report drivers who fail to stop for approaching trains.
Violations carry a $195 fine and court costs are $100. “Cops on Rails/Officer on the Train” is a continuing effort to enhance awareness and promote safe driving habits.
