Opinion Line Extra (March 8)

If the current Kansas legislators had been around for the debate about whether the Earth was flat, is there any doubt which side they would have supported?

I hope the Legislature concludes its “debate” on climate change quickly so it can move on to debating the realities of gravity and long division. If the adage “ignorance is bliss” is true, our Republican legislators must be one very cheerful bunch.

To those who say Kansas is a “backward state”: Don’t let the beautiful Kansas sunrises and sunsets hold you back. Leave now. The sooner you go, the better off Kansas will be. Goodbye.

I wonder if Sen. Jerry Moran found it “eye-opening” and “troublesome” (March 6 WE Blog) when his Senate leader (Mitch McConnell) made this statement: “The single most important thing we want to achieve is for President Obama to be a one-term president.”

Conspiring with the enemy is not the only way to commit treason. Actions that intentionally undermine the economy, out-of-control spending that will bankrupt the country, putting our national defense in jeopardy by decimating the military, and stomping all over the Bill of Rights are treasonous actions as well.

It is very sad that too many in Congress care more about hurting President Obama than promoting the best interest of the American people. It is no wonder that their approval rating is 13 percent. If sequestration goes on very long, it will dip below 10 percent.

Hey, if we have to cut federal spending by 2 percent, let’s start with foreign aid and not touch the air traffic controllers.

American citizens need to rise up and demand that as part of the sequester, no members of Congress shall be paid. See how long it would take them to come to an agreement then.

If I don’t do my job, I get fired. Congress gets a vacation.

How much money could taxpayers save if we eliminated all the military bands, singing groups, etc.?

Yes, give homosexuals the same rights to jobs, health care, etc. No, do not consider calling them “married.” To vote otherwise goes contrary to God’s will revealed in the Bible, and will doom our nation to His judgment of us.

One reader wants The Eagle to report the earnings of the next CEO of Spirit AeroSystems. It would also be appropriate to report the earnings of the union boss. What’s fair is fair.

The Dallas Cowboys reportedly are going on a restructuring binge. So is the owner finally going to fire himself? They will continue to be lousy until that happens. A Texas-size ego with Rhode Island-size football abilities.
