Fifteen lawyers have applied for the seat left vacant when Sedgwick County District Judge Anthony Powell was named to the Kansas Court of appeals.
The candidates were asked to submit applications directly to Gov. Sam Brownback, who will select Powell’s replacement. The deadline for applying was March 1.
“He has begun the review and interview process and hopes to announce his selection in a few weeks,” Brownback spokeswoman Sherriene Jones-Sontag said.
She said the names of the applicants would not be made public.
In picking Powell’s replacement, Brownback chose not to follow the practice of asking the local bar association to interview candidates and submit the names of three recommended finalists.
