The second finalist for the top job at Andover public schools is David Howard, superintendent of the Basehor-Linwood district near Leavenworth, officials announced Wednesday.

Howard has a bachelor of arts in history, a master’s in education administration and district level certification from Fort Hays State University, Andover officials said in a written statement on the district website.

He previously was superintendent and principal at the Chase Raymond school district and taught and coached at White City in Ellinwood. He and his wife, Toni, have a son in seventh grade and a daughter who is a sophomore in high school.

The Andover school board has narrowed its field of superintendent candidates to three and is conducting interviews and hosting a public reception for each finalist this week.

The first finalist, announced Tuesday, is Darrel Stufflebeam, superintendent of the Rock Creek school district east of Manhattan.

Keturah Austin, spokeswoman for the district, said Howard’s interview will be followed by a public reception from 4:45 to 5:15 p.m. Wednesday at the district office, 1432 Andover Road. A third finalist will be announced and interviewed Thursday.

Andover is searching for a replacement for Superintendent Mark Evans, who was named superintendent of Omaha public schools in December. Names of the other two finalists will be released Wednesday and Thursday on the district’s website, as well as on its Twitter and Facebook pages.
