Nicholson named freshman of the year

Fort Hays State point guard and Northwest product Craig Nicholson was named the MIAA freshman of the year and a second-team All-MIAA selection on Monday after helping lead the Tigers to a share of the MIAA regular-season title.

Nicholson averaged 13.8 points and led the MIAA with 7.0 assists per game.

Washburn senior guard Will McNeill was named the MIAA player of the year. Pittsburg State senior guard Marky Nolen, a South product, was named defensive player of the year.

Fort Hays State coach Mark Johnson was named coach of the year.

Fort Hays State junior forward Dwayne Brunson was also a first-team selection.
