An Olathe man has been sentenced to 21 months in federal prison for not filing federal currency transaction reports, U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom said Monday.

Pedro R. Padilla, 46, pleaded guilty to 10 counts of willfully failing to file currency reports, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said in an e-mail news release.

A document filed in federal court in June 2012 alleged that the transactions occurred at Novedades El Guero, an Olathe business involved in check cashing. Authorities alleged that in 2011 Padilla failed to make reports on 10 transactions ranging from $10,541 to $44,840.
