Wichita State and Creighton head into the final seven days of the Missouri Valley Conference women’s basketball schedule with three losses each, meaning the next stumble by either could cost them the league title.
That makes Sunday’s 12:30 p.m. game at Indiana State so important for the Shockers. Indiana State (17-9, 9-6 MVC) is the only remaining opponent for either first-place team with a winning record.
The Shockers (19-9, 13-3) try to regroup after a disheartening loss Thursday at Illinois State. Chynna Turner’s basket put WSU ahead with seconds to play, but Illinois State scored on a jump shot just before the buzzer to win 57-56 and drop the Shockers to even with Creighton (20-6, 12-3) in the loss column.
WSU finishes at Missouri State (14-14, 6-10) next Saturday. Creighton, which plays host to Drake (9-17, 4-11) on Sunday, is home for the final week against Evansville (8-18, 6-9) and Southern Illinois (4-22, 1-14).
